Fashion Icon Alexander McQueen dies at 40

I couldn't believe the news when I heard it: Alexander McQueen found dead in his London home Thursday (Feb. 11). He was 40.

It has been reported that the fashion designer who put British fashion on the international map with his ghastly, controversial runway shows has apparently committed suicide.

Known for his futuristic stilettos that challenge gravity and are shaped like a sea creature's claw featured in Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance" video, McQueen defied society's policy on beauty.

He typically featured his fashions of tailored jackets and patterned leggings and dresses on models portraying witches or mental patients, and for that, I applaud him.

Media reports indicated that McQueen was dealing with internal struggles, with the passing of his mother and longtime friend all in one year, and may have turn to taking his own life as a way of relinquishing such sorrow.

This fashion icon will be marked for creating the most daring macabre designs of all time: LEE ALEXANDER MCQUEEN (March 16, 1969- Feb. 11, 2010)
